KOTA KINABALU: A school bus driver, who was on her way to pick up students, was pinned in her seat after a collision with a Proton Wira car at a traffic light intersection near the state police headquarters at Jalan Kepayan early yesterday morning.

The 31-year-old victim only sustained minor injuries on her chest and leg. It took the fire and rescue personnel several minutes to free her from the school van.

Fortunately there was no student inside the vehicle in the 5.55am incident.

City police chief ACP M. Chandra said initial police investigation revealed that the bus was turning into Jalan Pahlawan from Putatan when it collided with the Proton Wira car that was heading to Putatan from the state capital.

“The bus driver was pinned at the driver’s seat while the driver of the Proton Wira car escaped unhurt.

“It took several minutes for the fire and rescue personnel to free the bus driver before she was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for outpatient treatment,” he said yesterday.

Chandra also said that no student was inside the school bus when the incident happened.

He said police would investigate the case under of the Road Traffic Rules 1959.
