KUCHING: Sarawak interim head coach David Yusop will be using two friendly matches against Selangor PKNS and Kuala Lumpur to gauge the Crocs in a prelude to the new soccer season of the Malaysian League.

His focus is to sharpen the Crocs attack line and strengthen the defence department especially without Davide Grassi.

“To me, the two friendlies are very important to overcome the weaknesses of our squad before the start of the Super League campaign. I hope all the players will use the friendlies as a platform to regain their momentum after a long break,” he said on Thursday.

David will also be using the two friendlies to test the abilities of Teah Dennis from Liberia, Andrei Alexandru Cordos of Romania and Vladmir Otasevic of Serbia who are on selection trial with Sarawak.

He added that some new defenders are expected to try their luck during the friendlies. Sarawak will take on Selangor PKNS on June 25 at the PKNS football field and play Kuala Lumpur on June 28 at USJ field.

David will not be placing high hopes on the Malaysia Cup campaign that will kick off on July 13. This is because some of the Malaysia Cup matches are too close to Super League ties.

“It’s difficult for us to rate our chances as this competition is going to be very stiff. Nevertheless, my main mission is to keep Sarawak in the Super League next season,” added David.

Sarawak will kick off their Malaysia Cup campaign against Kedah at Darul Aman Stadium on July 13. This will be followed by a Super League match against Pahang at Darul Makmur Stadium on July 16 and a Malaysia Cup match against JDT II at Pasir Gudang Municipal Council Stadium on July 19.
