The compound of the museum is suitable for keeping the Oath Stone, according to Jeffrey.

KENINGAU: The Oath Stone is very suitable to be placed in the compound of the Keningau Heritage Museum instead of erecting it outside the area as earlier proposed by the government, said Bingkor assemblyman Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan.

He said it would be safer inside the compound where the museum could look after it and take care of this historical stone after it was moved out of the District Office.

“I do not agree with the proposed site in the car park earlier, which is outside the compound area of the museum,” he told the Borneo Post after visiting the proposed site here on Thursday.

He said as a historical material and had been gazetted as the National Heritage by the federal government, it should be placed in the compound of the museum building for safety purposes.

Jeffrey said the museum area was so vast and placing it in a suitable area would attract more domestic and foreign visitors to see the Oath Stone.

“At the same time, visitors can also visit historical artefacts kept in the museum,” he said.

In another development, Jeffrey also asked the Sabah Police Contingent Headquarters to keep its promises to return the original Oath Stone plaque to him.

He said until now the police were still keeping the plaque. The original plague was surrendered to the police at a simple signing ceremony held at his office in Bingkor and was witnessed by District Chief OKK Mohd Amir Datuk Arif.

According to Jeffrey, the plague should be returned to him after the investigation had been completed.

“Until now the original plague is still in the hands of the police and I hope they will return it to me as soon as possible,” he said.

According to him, the handing over through the signing of a letter between him with a police officer from the Sabah Contingent Police Headquarters on July 22, 2015 at his office in Bingkor.

He said it was agreed by the police during the handing-over of that the original plaque that it should be in the hands of the police for safe keeping and Jeffrey could take it back to be handed over to the government between August 1 and September 16, 2015.

“I ask the police to keep their promises to return the Oath Stone original plague to me after the investigation was completed because I will hand over this plague officially to the state government,” he said.
