KOTA BAHARU: Over two million people have joined the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC)’s Click Wisely
programme (KDB) since it is launched in 2012.

MCMC Outreach Implementation Department head K. Juslly Elis said during that period over 24,000 such activities were organised nationwide to educate and create public awareness on safety and using the internet in a positive way besides being alert to cyber crimes.

“The programme focuses on target groups – children, adolescents, parents and guardians – on the vital steps that need to be observed and practised while surfing the internet,” he told reporters after the MCMC activity on advocacy with the community-KDB@Ramadan with orphans from the Kelantan Orphans Foundation here last night.

K.Juslly said MCMC wanted the community, especially teenagers and youth below aged 30 years who accounted for 60 per cent of the country’s internet users, to be smart in using the internet.

“KDB is targeting those who are more vulnerable to cyber crimes and online abuse. We want them to stay safe and secure while surfing the internet and sharing personal information, especially in suspicious websites, to observe ethics in their conversation and writing,” he said.

He said MCMC cooperates with various government agencies and non governmental organisations as strategic partners in implementing the Click Wisely programme.

These included briefings and seminars, exhibitions, interactive activities such as KDB challenges and searches for online security words.

On the advocacy activity with the community being held natiowide, he said over 1,000 people, including orphans, disabled and the poor, were involved.

Also present at the event was Kelantan MCMC Office head Mohd Padhli Yusoff.-BERNAMA
