KUALA TERENGGANU: Breaking fast and having ‘sahur’ (pre-dawn meal) with the family are the most eagerly waited moments for Muslims during the fasting month of Ramadan.

However, not all have that opportunity for various reasons like being far away from the family or due to the nature of their work.

It is the same situation for staff at the Telekom Malaysia (TM) transmission station in Bukit Besar, near here, where they have to make do with whatever they have when breaking fast or having sahur in the absence of their families.

These colleagues eat together but with their eyes still glued to the television monitor screens for six broadcasts and ensuring the nine radio channel frequencies are functioning well.

Their sacrifices, however, have not gone unnoticed with visiting Communications and Multimedia Deputy Minister Datuk Jailani Johari calling them unsung heroes for their invaluable contribution to the broadcasting industry.

On Thursday, Jailani together with Terengganu TM general manager, Hamidun Ismail came to the transmission station, bringing food packets containing Nasi Arab, dates and mineral water for the over 20 staff there for sahur.

During the two-hour visit, Jailani was also briefed on their work at each unit, which is round the clock daily so that the people can watch quality television broadcasts.

Jailani said the ministry appreciated the high commitment of all workers to their job and responsibilities at the transmission stations nationwide.

“I hope this contribution of food packs bring them cheer as they have to work shifts and sometimes take sahur at the station, although it’s not a very conducive place compared to home,” he said. — Bernama
