KUCHING: Customs Department will continue with its ‘Jom Minta Resit GST’ programme to encourage consumers to insist on demanding receipts or invoices after a transaction with business outlets.

State Customs director Datuk Dayang Fatimah Johari said the programme would also intensify the effort for business outlets to produce GST sales receipts in line with provision under Section 33, 34 and 36 of the Products and Services Tax Act 2014.

At the ‘Jom Minta Resit GST’ prize-presentation ceremony, held at Wisma Kastam here yesterday, Fatimah said the department was still receiving complaints from consumers on the issuance of GST-related receipts or invoices.

The event was held simultaneously at all Customs offices across the country to give away prizes to winners of the April and May 2016 programme.

“After a year since the implementation of GST, the department is still receiving complaints from consumers and the (complaints) include the receipts or invoices not being in line with the Products and Services Tax Act 2014,” she said.

GST was implemented on April 1 last year.

Fatimah added the department would continue to monitor the situation to ensure that business outlets abide by the law.

She said the next round of the programme (from June to July) had been extended to November this year to allow more people to join and win prizes.

For the April and May programme, the department has identified 2,876 winners and had collected 146,968 GST receipts from 13,069 consumers.
