Hunt for young swim stars in Kuching, Kota Samarahan

KUCHING: An Inter-Primary School Swimming Competition is now open for entries to pupils born between 2004 and 2009.

The Power Aquatics Swimming Club Kota Samarahan (PASC) will be holding the competition at the Aquatics Centre at the State Sports and Youth Complex in Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce on July 17 from 9am to 5pm.

Closing date for registration is on July 2 at 5pm.

It is open to all primary schools in Kuching and Kota Samarahan divisions.

The competition will be divided into six categories of ‘Primary One (born in 2009)’, ‘Primary Two (born in 2008)’, ‘Primary Three (2007)’, ‘Primary Four (2006)’, ‘Primary Five (2005)’ and ‘Primary Six (2004)’.

Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded to the top three in all events, along with a certificate of  participation. Trophies will go to the Best Boy and Best Girl teams, as well as to Best Boy and Girl swimmers in each age-group.

In total, the competition will see 88 individual events and 10 relay events.

PASC is the first registered private swimming club in Sarawak, with swimmers ranging from the age of six to 11 years old.

The competition is to encourage children to take up swimming as a healthy lifestyle and learning survival skills in line with the ‘1Student 1Sport’ government slogan.

It also aims to encourage the development of swimming as a competitive sports, by providing an avenue for young swimmers to compete among peers, thereby gaining both experience and exposure.
