KUCHING: The Cat Monument and Waterfront here, and the Sibu Walkway in Sibu, were ‘painted red’ by agents and employees of MPI Generali Insurans Berhad who came in red polo tees, brandishing red umbrellas and giving away red balloons to the general public.

A total 16 staff and 20 agents here, and six staff and 15 agents in Sibu, took part in a campaign called ‘Paint the Town Red’ carried out simultaneously nationwide from 10am onwards at various landmarks across Malaysia yesterday.

The campaign was an internal creative photo contest carried out by MPI Generali involving the general insurer’s representatives posing creatively and taking photos while giving away red balloons.

It was also organised to revive the appeal of local landmarks.

Apart from Kuching and Sibu, the other locations were at Central Market in Kuala Lumpur, Taman Bandar Diraja in Klang, Padang Alor Setar in Alor Setar, Lebuh Armenian in Penang, Concubine Lane in Ipoh, A’ Famosa Fort, St Paul’s Hill and the Stadthuys in Melaka, Jalan Tan Hiok Nee in Johor Bahru, UTC Kuantan in Kuantan, Tambatan Diraja dan Pintu Gerbang in Kota Bharu, Jalan Lintas Utara roundabout in Sandakan, and Gaya Street roundabout in Kota Kinabalu.

“Why landmarks? One of the rules of the contest is for the participants to gather at a landmark place in the major towns/cities where MPI Generali has a presence. It is hoped that this effort will help to rediscover and revive the appeal of these landmark places which many of us may have overlooked and forgotten its history.

“In addition to having a fun morning showcasing our country, the contestants stand to win top three prizes for the most creative photo submitted,” a statement from MPI Generali stated.

MPI Generali, formerly known as Multi-Purpose Insurans Bhd, is a strategic partnership between Multi-Purpose Capital Holdings Berhad, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of MPHB Capital Berhad, a public-listed company, and Assicurazioni Generali S.p.A., one of the largest global insurance providers with a rich heritage going back to 1831.

Its core business is underwriting of general insurance.
