KUCHING: Two siblings learned the hard way about why children should not handle fireworks without adult supervision.

A 10-year-old boy and his nine-year old sister from Bandar Baru Semariang ended up in the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) yesterday afternoon after youthful curiosity went wrong.

The boy lit a firework that his sister was holding but she did not release it on time.

In the explosion, the girl’s right hand was injured while the brother complained of pain in his eyes.

According to their mother, she repeatedly warned them in the past about playing with fireworks. She was away at work when the incident occurred and had no idea where the kids obtained the fireworks.

In another case, a mobile police unit picked up a suspect in a Perodua Alza at 1am yesterday morning after receiving a report that cables were stolen from a construction site at Jalan Astana.

The 40-year old from Simunjan was found with coils of cable in the car boot and a bag containing what was believed to be Syabu and some drug paraphernalia.

He was taken to the station for further investigations.
