KUALA LUMPUR: Politicians should stop politicking and focus on issues of the nation, especially in facing the current global political and economic challenges, said Gerakan president Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong.

He said the country’s political leaders should put their political differences aside and focus on sharing ideas in solving the issues of the people on the ground.

“The world is facing a global uncertainty, the United Kingdom exit from the European Union shocked the global markets. Only when we (Malaysians) work together can we overcome any challenges in times of these uncertainties,” he told a press conference after opening the annual general meeting of Koperasi Rakyat Berhad, here yesterday.

Mah, who is also Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, said although the country was facing tough times ahead, he was confident the government’s transformation programmes would be successful in facing these difficult times.

He said Barisan Nasional (BN)’s victories in the recent Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar by-elections showed that the people were still confident with the current leadership to bring changes to the country.

Asked on the possibility of a cabinet reshuffle, which was expected to take place this week, Mah said it was the prerogative of the prime minister (Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak) and it was up to him to decide who should stay or leave.

“We never even discuss this during the cabinet meeting or in the BN component party meeting.

“It is up to him (Najib) to decide, we will have to wait for next week,” he added. — Bernama
