KOTA KINABALU: Umno Kota Kinabalu Division Youth fully supports the party’s supreme council’s unanimous decision to sack former deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and former Kedah menteri besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir.

The division is also behind the suspension of the party’s vice president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

Its head, Mohd Bahrin Abd Karim, said the supreme council’s action is justified and apt to maintain the party’s integrity.

“The Umno Kota Kinabalu Youth is confident the disciplinary action, which includes the dismissal and suspension of Umno members who have committed disciplinary violations, is spot on and fair so the party remains strong,” he said.

Bahrin said this to reporters after attending a breaking of fast ceremony with students and the disabled deaf of the Pusat Pengajian Tahfiz Al-Quran As-Syatibiyah Masjid Bandaran Kota Kinabalu here at Hyatt Regency Kinabalu here yesterday.

He was responding to a question on the sacking of Muhyiddin and Mukhriz for conspiring with the opposition and attacking Umno leaders.

Bahrin elaborated that Umno, which is the Barisan Nasional (BN) backbone, will become weak if decisive action was not taken against party members who violate the party’s code and attempt to sabotage the party.

At the same time, he asked party members, especially in Kota Kinabalu area, to accept the decision with an open heart and continue to strengthen unity within Umno.

“Our main goal is to ensure that Umno and BN remain relevant and mighty in the face of the upcoming general election (GE),” stressed the youth leader.

He said Umno Kota Kinabalu Youth had been and would continue to conduct field programs and assist the grassroots people, especially the Bumiputera community in the city.

Bahrin also hoped that the Umno Information Bureau will activate a program to inform members about the dismissal and suspension.

A total of 30 Tahfiz Al Quran students and 10 people with disabilities (deafness) from the Persatuan Orang-Orang Pekak received Raya donations at the ceremony.
