BINTANGOR: Four families in Kampung Bidadari here, who lost their homes in a fire in March this year, will celebrate this Hari Raya Aidilfitri in new houses.

Their houses, rebuilt with People’s Housing Programme (PPR) funds, are almost completed.

Tanjong Manis MP Datuk Norah Tun Rahman, who promised to help the fire victims rebuild their houses when she visited them at a temporary shelter at the hall of the village mosque here two days after the tragedy, returned here to meet them and view the progress of the new houses yesterday.

Norah said that she was pleased that the houses costing RM50,000 each had been completed well before Hari Raya Aidilfitri although construction work only started slightly over a month ago.

On being informed by the contractor that only the electricity meters have yet to be installed and that the victims could otherwise move in immediately, Norah hoped the authority concerned would get the work done in the next few days to enable the victims to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri in their new homes.

While waiting, the victims put up in three rented houses with monthly rentals of RM250 each sponsored by Norah.

Norah, who was accompanied by Meradong District Officer Mastapa Julaihi and local community leaders, officially handed over the houses to the victims yesterday.

The house owners are Mumin Juki, Ahmad Juki, Omar Juki and Tee Jali.
