Make proposed joint sea border patrol a reality – LDP

KOTA KINABALU: The state government welcomes the proposal for joint patrolling at the sea borders by Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines.

Minister of Special Tasks, Datuk Teo Chee Kang, however stressed that the proposal must be made into a reality and efforts must be made to ensure that it is consistent.

The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) president said that joint patrolling would help to prevent cross border crime, including abductions.

“We see now that the modus operandi of those involved in the cross border abductions has changed and they are operating in international waters. This shows that the Malaysian security, especially along the Sabah border, is tight,” he said at the state police contingent headquarters yesterday to present Raya goodies.

“This is a positive result of the ESSCom as well as the efforts and high commitment of the security forces in ensuring that the people’s safety and country’s sovereignty are protected,” Teo said.

He stressed that the police and the security forces in the country hold a heavy responsibility to ensure that safety in Sabah is guaranteed.

Without a stable security level, social and economic development cannot be implemented, he said.

Meanwhile, Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Abdul Rashid Harun who received the contribution on behalf of the state police contingent, said it was a sign of LDP’s acknowledgement of the law enforcers’ contribution.

“As in previous years, most of the police personnel will be on duty during Hari Raya to ensure that the safety in the state is maintained,” he said.
