KUCHING: Five men, known as members of ‘Almera Gang’, were ordered yesterday to be placed under remand for another four days in connection with a robbery case in Sungai Maong here.

It was the second remand for the suspects, aged between 23 and 27. They would be placed in police custody until July 1, pending investigations.

The Kota Samarahan Magistrate’s Court initially ordered the gang to be placed under remand beginning June 14 this year for their suspected involvement in three robbery cases in the area.

Yesterday, the remand order was made in connection with a case, in which a man was severely attacked when he was about to leave his house for work around 6pm.

In the June 13 incident, four men including one who was waiting inside a car attacked the victim — in his 20s — at the gate of the latter’s house.

The gang members are also suspected to have been involved in other criminal cases like housebreaking, robberies and thefts in several areas across the city, including in Padawan.

It is learnt that all of them tested positive for drugs and have prior criminal records.
