Zorro flew home in Race 5.

KUCHING: Zorro stole the limelight in the main event – Race 5 (Class 1 –1000M) — with a typical late burst on Sunday.

The eight-year-old showed plenty of heart when he flew in the closing stages to beat Bojeng (Hamid Elli) by one length for a stable queue-up.

The Sara Stable’s brown racer, always a threat with plenty of give underfoot, also relegated the big boss of the race, Empila Boy, to third place, another length further back.

Empila Boy, strongly fancied to bounce back from two out-of-sort defeats in his last two starts, was seen with a chance 200M out but the big four-year-old chestnut found the winner in galloping mood, and will have leave setting the record straight to another day.

Bukan Lawan Nya, an easy winner on the first weekend, finished a long last.

Zorro who paid RM17, was the final leg of a four-out-of-five winning tally for Lee Moi Fong.

Her three other winners were Junior Champ in Race 1 (Class 5 — 1000M), Good Fortune in Race 2 (Class 3 – 1000M) and Perfect Dancer in Race 3 (Class 3 – 1000M).

Junior Champ (Maruf Wahab) shrugged off a hefty 78kg on his back to beat Big Chief (Roslan Bujang) by 3/4 length, paying RM9.

Chenlimah (Azizi Jasmi) was a long third.

Newly-promoted Good Fortune pulled off an upset with a 2 ¾-length victory over Peace Pipe (Roslan Bujang), paying RM82.

Nabila (Jasmi Kamar) was a distant third.

Perfect Danger had the measure of Dragon Fly by 3 3/4 lengths, paying RM16.

Pintas Lalu (Rosan Bujang) was third, one length further back.

The remaining event (Class 2 over 1000M in Race 4) went to Nothing To Lose (Roslan Bujang) by six lengths from Sofia’s Pet (Hamid Elli) with Geronimo (Mazlan Bujang) third, two lengths adrift.

The winner, owned by Beraya Stable and trained by Tamizi Putit, paid RM11.

The going was yielding.
