KANOWIT: Thirty-two councillors from Kanowit District Council (KDC) have gained much knowledge from a study tour to the Peninsular Malaysia from June 20 – 24.

“On the second day of our tour we visited the offices of Ministry of Tourism and Culture (MOTAC) and Ministry of Rural and Regional Development in Putrajaya,” said Encharang Jackie, one of the councillors on the trip.

“There we gained new and first-hand knowledge through our meetings with the staff of both ministries.

“MOTAC also organised a breaking fast ceremony for us at the Kuala Lumpur Crafts Complex,” he said.

Stephen Chendang, who also joined the tour, said they were also taken to places of interests in Negeri Sembilan and Melaka.

In Melaka, he said they were given the chance to study and see personally world heritage sites as well as homestay programmes.

“It was meaningful to learn about the historical places.

“I hope we will bring what we have experienced to Kanowit and turn it into a focus area for development and also transit town in the central region,” he said.

Besides Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka, the councillors also visited the National Zoo, National Monument Park, Istana Negara, Kuala Lumpur City Centre and Bukit Bintang.

The tour was organised by KDC and led by its chairman Katis Noel Nyabong.
