SRI AMAN: Thirty-eight illegal immigrants were detected and detained as a result of an integrated operation called ‘Ops Bersepadu’ at Lubok Antu-Sri Aman junction on Sunday.

They comprised 25 Indonesians, 12 China nationals and a Filipino.

Of these, 18 Indonesian men, an Indonesian woman, 10 China men, two China women and the Filipino man were caught because they failed to produce travel documents and valid identification to be in the state, while the five Indonesian men and an Indonesian woman were caught for over-staying.

They were among 1,164 individuals inspected during the operation, which involved road blocks and inspection of public transport.

Those detained were brought to Semuja Immigration Detention Centre for further investigation.

The operation was headed by Mehuen Runies from the Enforcement Section of the Immigration Office in Kuching, assisted by 43 personnel from Sri Aman enforcement unit. A traffic police unit from Sri Aman Police Station assisted with the road block.

Present during the operation were State Immigration director Ken Leben and State Immigration enforcement chief Garry Belayong John Siki.
