BINTANGOR: A crane operator was electrocuted while erecting an electric pole near the traffic lights at Jalan Bintangor/Tanjung Genting, about 8km from here yesterday afternoon.

Bintangor Fire and Rescue Services (Bomba) station chief Nicholas Belulin said the tragedy happened around 2pm.

Responding to a distress call, they deployed a team of firemen to the scene where they noticed a man lying unconscious, he said.

The victim, identified as Liew Poh Khong, was believed to have been electrocuted when the crane he was operating came into contact with live overhead cables.

Paramedics who arrived at the scene confirmed that Liew was dead.
