KUCHING: The Sarawak Sukma archery squad are now in Johor for a friendly match cum exposure stint until July 5.

Head coach Abdul Razak Yaacob said the week-long outing was part of the preparation for the 18th Sukma to be hosted by Sarawak from July 22-31.

“I am hoping that they can make full use of the outing to further improve their skills and gain more competition experience,” the former national archer and coach from Terengganu said.

According to him, the state archers also had a friendly match with the Penang Sukma squad from June 15-23 where they bagged two gold and one bronze medals.

Esther Yong Yin Ze won the women’s 70m recurve gold and a bronze in the women’s 50m compound.

She also helped her teammates to capture the women’s team gold.

Razak said the state team for Sukma was already finalised and they will be undergoing centralised training in Kuching soon.

The women’s squad, spearheaded by 2014 Perlis Sukma gold medallist Kho Yee Ting from Bintulu, includes Vanessa Voon Li Ping, Esther Yong Yin Ze, Catherine Laura King, Cheryl Rudang Goh Pei Loke, Natasha Ting Sze Pei, Nurazwa Nabilah Mazlan and Supang Yahya.

Making up the men’s squad are Chio Chung Yin, Ting Kee Wei, Ngu Gao Teck, Mohd Haziq Halim, Wanthur Yong Tze Wang, Bryson Ting Tiew Lung, Jee Kouk Liang and Muhammad Jeferi Mohd Khairi.

The team is managed by Halim Mohamad.
