KUALA LUMPUR: The Road Transport Department (RTD) proposes to take motorists found committing six traffic offences during the ‘2016 Op Hari Raya Aidilfitri (Op HRA)’ to court, starting from yesterday until July 13.

The six offences are failure to comply with traffic lights; overtaking on double lines; driving on the emergency lane; cutting in line, using mobile phones while driving and not allowing other vehicles to overtake. RTD Enforcement Division director Datuk V Valluvan Veloo said the move was proposed as RTD felt the action of imposing compounds on motorists who committed such offences was not effective as they still don’t realise their mistakes.

“I will bring this matter to the director-general of RTD and discuss the approval of the proposal, and when a decision is made RTD will announce it,” he said at a Op HRA press conference in the South Integrated Terminal here, yesterday. — Bernama
