KUCHING: The Sarawak Sukma artistic gymnastics team have moved into the Sarawak Indoor Stadium on Tuesday for their first day of training after the new equipment was installed there on Monday.

The equipment supplied by ACROMAT for the artistic gymnastics competition of Sukma XVIII from July 28-30 was handed over by its representative Chai Poh Fatt to permanent secretary to the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Solidarity Kameri Affandi on Tuesday.

State head coach Bogomil Ivanov Momchilova said the state gymnasts will be training and adapting to the new equipment and training condition at the Sarawak Indoor Stadium from here on to July 3.

“The gymnasts were previously training at the Sarawak Gymnastics Stadium where the equipment are already old and there was no air-conditioning.

“In the indoor stadium, they will be training under a different atmosphere because the stadium is air-conditioned and the equipment are all new,” the coach from Bulgaria said.

It was understood that the ACROMAT equipment were of world-class standard, similar to those used in the 2008 Olympic Games in Sydney.

Sarawak will be fielding six girls and two boys in the upcoming Sukma. The team, led by Esmelda Arecia Menti Alfred and Nur Amira Idayah, are targeting one gold medal in the 18th edition of the national games.
