KUCHING: Anastasia Kristie Martin has become the first Kolej Sunway Kuching Diploma in Accounting (DIA) graduate to be accepted into the second year of the Bachelor of Science Business, Economics and Finance at the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus.

In November 2014, Kolej Sunway Kuching signed a memorandum of understanding with the University of Nottingham Malaysian Campus to grant DIA graduates advanced standing into Year 2 of selected undergraduate programmes offered by Nottingham University Business School (NUBS) at The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus.

Anastasia, 21, said she chose to study at the college because Sunway has a long standing reputation of being the best accounting tuition provider.

“So naturally that was an easy decision for me. I chose DIA over CAT because the DIA course covers a wide subject scope over a span of 2 ½ years which gave me ample time to discover and decide on my area of interest to pursue my degree,” she said in a publicity release yesterday.

“Plus, the DIA programme incorporates practical learning whereby DIA students are engaged in group work, projects and presentations to hone communication and leadership skills,” she added.

She acknowledged the many people who helped her throughout her two-and-a-half year journey.

Anastasia also praised Sunway’s curriculum for helping her excel in exams.

“The Sunway Success Strategy has helped me by providing sufficient exercises to familiarise myself with the questions format, encouraging group discussions to harness critical thinking skills and taking in different point of views, and the emphasis on understanding concept as supposed to merely memorising it,” she said.

As for the SPM/STPM school leavers currently thinking of enrolling for DIA, Anastasia highly recommended them to enrol in Sunway that provides exceptional teaching quality.

Anastasia added that she is looking forward to pursue her bachelor’s degree at the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus in her chosen field, economics.

Launched in September 2013, the Diploma in Accounting (DIA) programme at Kolej Sunway Kuchingis approved by the Ministry of Education and fully accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). The course is equivalent to Year 1 of an undergraduate degree programme.

DIA graduates will have the opportunity to pursue Year 2 of undergraduate degrees at 11 good ranking local and overseas universities.

The 11 universities that will be accepting Sunway’s DIA alumni are Nottingham University Malaysia Campus, University of Waikato (NZ), University of Canterbury (NZ), Birmingham City University (UK), University of Western Australia, Curtin University Sarawak and Australia, Swinburne University of Technology, Sarawak Campus, Victoria University (Melbourne), Australia Catholic University, Cardiff University (Wales), and Sunway University.

The DIA programme also provides students with a pathway to the prestigious Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) professional accountancy qualification.

DIA graduates will be entitled to receive exemptions of up to three papers from ACCA upon meeting the professional body’s terms and conditions.

To be eligible to enroll for the DIA, students must have passed SPM/O levels/UEC with a minimum of three credits, including in mathematics with a compulsory pass in English.

Upon enrolment, DIA students can apply for PTPTN loan and for the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation scholarship.

The next intake of Kolej Sunway Kuching’s Diploma in Accounting (DIA) programme starts in August 2016.
