SIBU: All four United Peoples’ Party (UPP) branches in Sibu have appealed to the local government to retain Dato Andrew Wong as the Sibu Municipal Council deputy chairman.

The branches are Bukit Assek, Pelawan, Bawang Assan and Dudong.

“He has proved himself as a capable leader for the past two years and a half as deputy chairman.

“We feel very sad if he is not re-appointed and we strongly appeal to the local government to retain him and let him fulfill his plan for Sibu,” Pelawan chairperson Dato Janet Lau said at a press conference this morning (July 1).

She said Wong had brought numerous changes to Sibu, including the upgrading of various roads, fighting for the town’s upgrade to city status and preparing for Visit Sibu Year (VSY) 2017.

She said plans for VSY 2017 had been drafted and allocations of fund had been approved for the project, and it would be a loss if Wong’s service was cut short.

She also urged Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) leaders to put personal and party differences aside, and to keep those who are good and willing to serve.

“We can’t afford to lose young people who are dynamic, energetic and forward-sighted in bringing Sibu to greater heights,” she pointed out.
