KUCHING: Siemens Malaysia Sdn Bhd (Siemens) is keen on enhancing its contributions to the state of Sarawak.

This comes as a delegation from Siemens Malaysia Sdn Bhd paid a courtesy call on Sarawak’s Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem recently.

Headed by Prakash Chandran, president and chief executive officer of Siemens Malaysia, he was joined by Thomas Hagedorn, executive vice president and head of sales, Asia Pacific for Siemens Power and Gas Division as well as Datuk Hasmi Hasnan, group managing director of Naim Group of Companies.

Naim is Siemens Malaysia’s local support and subcontractor.

The courtesy call was organised to provide an overview of Siemens’ business operations and to update the Chief Minister on Siemens Malaysia’s current business activities in Sarawak.

Part of Siemens AG, a global technology powerhouse in electrification, automation and digitalization and one of the world’s largest producers of energy-efficient, resource-saving technologies, Siemens Malaysia was established in 1908.

Its involvement in nation-building projects and initiatives such as the transfer of technology to local apprentices and engineers, assembly of driverless metro trains for one of the country’s biggest rail projects, supply of highly-efficient gas turbines for power generation and the like, already demonstrates the company’s commitment to be Malaysia’s preferred technology partner.

Following the visit, Prakash announced plans to further expand its scope of activities and investment in Sarawak.

“With the rapid growth plans that Sarawak had set for itself in the coming years, the demand in reliable and efficient power and energy will increase manifold.

“Sarawak has huge potential and Siemens is well-positioned to be its preferred technology partner.

“Having already established a market share in power transmission and distribution in Sarawak, we are keen to focus on gas-based power generation opportunities, addressing the specific needs of the state with our comprehensive range of gas turbine technologies, designed for efficiency and reliability.

“Together with the Sarawak government, we can make real what matters to the local communities. We are positioned along the electrification value chain with strong expertise in automation and digitalisation, creating value and increasing efficiency for our customers,” Prakash explained.

Meanwhile, Hasmi said Naim would be exploring collaborative opportunities with Siemens Malaysia.

“Very importantly, such collaboration will facilitate capacity building of our people, by having the opportunity to learn from one of the world’s best in these areas,” Hasmi remarked.

In Sarawak, Siemens Malaysia is already working very closely with the state-owned utility company, Sarawak Energy Berhad and is present at numerous power sites like the Samalaju, Samajaya, Similaju, PMU Tanjung Manis, and others. Siemens’ building management solutions can also be found on the campus grounds of the University College of Technology Sarawak and process industry solutions at the CMS Cement factory.

Siemens Malaysia has also announced plans to further invest in the educational development of the local communities via STEM-related projects, integrated vocational training and enhanced employment and business opportunities.
