KUCHING: The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta) Sarawak Chapter will be organising the 9th Sarawak Matta Fair 2016 from Sept 2 to 4 at Boulevard Shopping Mall here.

The organising chairperson Sonia Todeng said yesterday the upcoming Matta Fair would be the second to be held in Kuching this year after the last one in March, which received encouraging response from the public.

Matta Sarawak Chapter thus extends invitations to all travel and tourism related businesses to participate in this upcoming fair.

“We had more than 40 booths during the March’s fair which recorded some 12,000 visitors. Our target for the September fair is 60 booths,” she told a press conference at the Matta Sarawak Chapter office at Jalan Tabuan here.

“Registration to join the fair is now open until Aug 15. We welcome all travel and tour agents, hoteliers, relevant government agencies and departments as well as other related businesses to be part of the fair,” she added.

The Matta fair, she pointed out, was recognised as a major event for the Sarawak Chapter every year as it provided amazing opportunities for both industry players and the general public to network and explore the many special offers for a variety of travel packages under one roof.

“There are a wide selection of exciting holiday packages and flight offers besides other sideline activities and lucky draw at the fair,” she said.

Participating travel and tour agents will be showcasing the latest travel packages with wonderful offers as well as promotional fares at the fair.

“So the public should really take this golden opportunity to visit the fair and plan for their travels including getting more information about the destinations they intend to visit,” she added.

Meanwhile, Matta Sarawak Chapter chairman Chris Kon highlighted that this September’s fair also aims to promote local and domestic tourism.

“We will work together with the Tourism Ministry to push local and domestic packages noting the economic downturn. We have a great list of attractions in Sarawak like the Mulu Cave, the 9th Asia Pacific Ecotourism Conference 2016 (APeco ‘16), and many more in other states,” he said.

Kon pointed out that the APeco ‘16, organised by Matta and to be held from Oct 21 to 23 at the Riverside Majestic Hotel, would provide a perfect platform in creating awareness to promote ecotourism.

“It is also an opportunity to educate, share and exchange ideas and knowledge about ecotourism from experts from the Asia Pacific region,” he said.

Kon added that the conference was making a return after a span of about 12 years with the event last held in Kuching in 2004.

The registration package and price for Malaysian delegates are RM371 for Matta members and RM424 for non-members while international delegates are charged RM530 and students RM212 per person.
