MIRI: The new Sarawak Islamic Complex here that is designed after the Alhambra Palace in Granada, Spain, has become the latest attraction in this resort city.

Chairman of Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) Datu Misnu Taha praised the beautiful design of the RM113 million complex, which will also house several government departments and offices.

Among them are the Islamic Department, Syariah Judicial Department, Miri Resident Office, Miri District Office, Welfare Department, Treasury Department, Public Works Department and Forest Department.

“The building is fully completed. We have also obtained the OP (Occupation Permit), meaning that all these government offices can start to move in.

“These departments will normally furnish the interior of their office before moving in,” he said when met by reporters here yesterday.

Prior to that, Misnu, on behalf of MIS, received the completed project from the contractor in-charge Riaplus Sdn Bhd, which was represented by its managing director Dato Ting Ong Hua.

The ceremony was witnessed by the general manager of Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS) Datu Abg Mohd Shibli

Abg Nailie as well as the executive director of Riaplus Tang Ing Hui.

The two-tower building began construction in March 2014 and was fully completed on May 30 this year. It is the third complex under the management of TBS, after those in Kuching and Sibu.

Misnu is also inviting Mirians to come and visit the complex and see for themselves its beautiful architecture.

Also present at the function yesterday were head of TBS Miri Marini Juraibi as well as the Islamic Department (JAIS) chief assistant director for Northern Zone Jamaludin Taim.
