SIBU: All levels of the 31st Infantry Brigade must stand together and share a common objective of making the force always relevant with changing times.

In giving this reminder, 31st Infantry Brigade commander Brigadier-General Jamaluddin Jambi said this is to ensure that the brigade can continue to be a leading and respected organisation in the defence of the country’s sovereignty.

“The brigade holds the responsibility as a key government agency that is involved directly in the security of our land borders.

“I therefore urge all levels of administration to look for opportunities towards strengthening our relationship with other public agencies.

“I am optimistic that this brigade will be more robust and effective in the future,” he said when officiating at a parade to mark the brigade’s first anniversary at Junaco Park National Service Training camp here on Friday.

Jamaluddin said 31st Infantry Brigade was officially set up on May 11 last year to monitor the Sabah-Sarawak-Kalimantan border spanning 2,019.5 kilometres besides complementing the military in Sabah and Sarawak.

He said it was first based at the army headquarters in Kuala Lumpur on July 1, 2015 before relocating to Muara Tuang and Kota Samarahan camps in Sarawak on Feb 8 this year.

“The brigade was formed by five battalions of Border Regiment (RS), Signals Brigade troop and Military Police Corps platoon.

“Until now, five battalions are stationed in Sarawak – 6th and 9th battalions in Sibu, 7th battalion in Bintulu, 8th battalion in Miri and 10th battalion in Bau,” he said.

Also present at the function was Junaco Park camp operator Khiu Siong Hii.
