Mohd Shafie Apdal announces his decision to quit Umno.
SEMPORNA: Suspended Umno vice president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal has announced that he is quitting the party with immediate effect.
Shafie, who was suspended by the Umno Supreme Council due to disciplinary issues, announced this during a press conference held in conjunction with the ‘Program Rakyat Bersama Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal’ event.
At the end of June, the Umno Supreme Council decided to sack party deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, while Shafie was suspended until further notice from the disciplinary committee.
Following his suspension, Semporna Umno Deputy Head of Division, Datuk Dr Jaujan Sambakong, announced that he would quit Umno with the Semporna Umno Youth Chief and Semporna Wanita Umno Chief along with 300 Umno branch leaders.
