The fire at its height in Medan commercial area, Mukah, yesterday.
MUKAH: A three-storey corner shoplot in Medan Commercial Area, next to Kingwood Hotel here, was gutted last night, causing losses to a fashion house on the ground floor.
Mukah police chief DSP Jimmy Banyao said firemen and policemen scrambled to the scene when the alarm was raised.
At press time, he said the fire had been doused. He said members of the public spotted thick smoke rising from the first floor at 6.45pm and called for help.
He believed the fire could have started on the first floor, which is a store room, adding that the cause of the fire had yet to be ascertained.
“No casualty was reported. The timely arrival of the firemen prevented the fire from spreading.”
