MIRI: The Resort City Miri will see more China tourists in the near future should the proposal for a direct Miri-Shenzhen flight via Malindo Air be given the green-light.

In an interview here yesterday, Assistant Minister for Land and Air Transportation and Safety Datuk Lee Kim Shin said he had proposed the route during a meeting with Malindo Air here on Friday.

He said if the proposal was accepted, then it would boost the tourism industry and the state’s economy.

Malindo Air has just resumed its suspended flight on Friday for the Kuala Lumpur-Miri route.

When asked why he proposed the Miri-Shenzhen route and no other routes, Lee pointed out that it was because Shenzhen is located close to Hong Kong and also to other cities such as Guangzhou and Beijing.

Lee, who is also Senadin assemblyman, said tourists from China make up the highest number of visitors to Miri in the recent years.

“Although we have various attractions here, the Chinese from China like to come here mainly for the deep sea fishing tournament,” he said.
