KUCHING: Malaysians should ensure that the harmony, development and unity among the various communities of different races and religions continue to flourish in the spirit of fairness and justice.

In making the call, state Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) chairman Baru Bian said the culture of visiting each other that is practised in Malaysia during festivals and celebrations cultivates harmony among the people, regardless of beliefs and faith.

“We must continue with this practice, which adds to the joy of the festivities and makes it even more meaningful,” he said in his Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2016 message yesterday.

Baru, who is Ba Kelalan assemblyman, believed that openness and courtesy towards each other would also help foster better relationships and understanding among the people.

“I believe that the citizens of this country are mature enough to reject the irresponsible politics of certain small segments of society who play up racial and religious sentiments and create problems for others.

“On this happy occasion, let us pray for everlasting safety, security and peace for our country.”

Besides praying for good health and happiness for all while enjoying the celebrations with family and relatives, Baru hoped that this Aidilfitri would be meaningful and filled with thanksgiving and blessings, as well as forgiveness.
