Maktab Sabah students win medals in international dance contest

KOTA KINABALU: Four Maktab Sabah students brought home two golds and one bronze from the Bloch Dance World Cup Jersey 2016 in spite of fasting and differences in the weather condition they are used to.

The students were Noreba Natasya Siabi, Nurazra Munirah Rizalman, Nurazira Daris and Lyea Sarah Raslin.

Noreba won a gold medal in the Junior Solo National Dance category. She also won gold in the Junior Quartet National Dance category with her three peers, Nurazra, Nurazira and Lyea.

Nurazra, Nurazira and Lyea won the bronze medal in the Junior Trio National Dance category.

According to Noreba, it was very difficult to perform during the fasting month and they had to reduce the time spent training.

The chilly weather was also something they were not accustomed to, she said.

The competition lasted for six days from June 25 to July 2.

On their arrival at Kota Kinabalu International Airport recently, the students were greeted by Kota Kinabalu district education officer Umin Haji Sadi, Maktab Sabah Parents-Teachers Association chairperson Datuk Fatimah Shara Ahmad Noor and the schools excellent principal, Nuinda Alias.

Nuinda said that this was the schools sixth year participating in the international dance competition and they hope to continue the tradition of sending students to take part in the future.

She expressed her gratitude to all those who made the students participation in the competition possible and hoped that they will continue to render their support in the future.

She added that students from the school who have participated in the competition in the past had never failed to bring home a gold.

Meanwhile, Fatimah expressed her pride towards the students’ success in the world class dance competition.

She said that they would provide their support to the school to allow students to take part in a similar competition to be held in Germany.
