MIRI: The Catholic community in Pujut Corner here recently completed an extension to their St Anthony Chapel to accommodate the growing number of congregation.

Members of the community held a ‘gotong-royong’ to improve and upgrade the chapel including constructing a hall for religious and community gatherings.

“This is a clear example where a community choose to be united and working together they can achieve great result,” Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau observed when attending a ‘Ngiling Tikai’ ceremony held at the chapel’s hall recently.

The assemblyman also noted the growing number of congregation which he said was a manifestation of the strong emphasis people were putting on their spiritual growth and need.

With the existence of the chapel hall, the Catholic community and people living in Pujut Coner and nearby areas can make use of the facility for gathering.

“We are thankful to God Almighty for His continuous blessing upon us that enables us to live in peace and harmony despite being a multi-racial and multi-religious society and enable us to celebrate Gawai and other festivals together without any fear,” he said.

About 300 Catholics as well as those from other faiths attended the event.
