KANGAR: The Civil Defence Force (APM) is ready to provide 10,000 personnel to assist the park rangers to monitor security, especially in areas along the national borders.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim said his department had made an offer to the state government on the matter.

“Security control, particularly in the border areas, is currently full of challenges. APM has over two million members and we will increase the number, mostly from the youths, if such a need arises,” he said when met at a Hari Raya Aidilfitri event here today.

He said the nation’s forests were at a high risk of being encroached by certain groups, especially foreigners, who might bring negative elements such as Daesh militants.

“Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has already agreed to allow APM join the border patrols,” he said.

The Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail and Perlis Raja Muda, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail also attended the open house. – Bernama
