MIRI: Religious bodies statewide are urged to hold more programmes that involve younger children when organising Hari Raya Aidilfitri gatherings.

In making the call, the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud said since Hari Raya gathering was held

annually, anyone wanting to hold such event should include programmes for children especially those below 16 years old.

“I would like to suggest for more programmes involving younger children statewide, to be held perhaps in every division.

“I believe, with the spirit of helping one another every division would be able to hold such programme and that it would give a good impact to the community as a whole,” he said at a Hari Raya gathering organised by Miri Malay Charitable Trust Board (LKAMM) at a leading hotel here Monday night.

He also called on the Ministry of Welfare, Women and Family Development to contribute ideas for the programmes to attract the younger children and also to unearth their talents.

Such programme, he said, would also promote Islam and enable the younger generation to understand the true meaning of Hari Raya.

Later at the same function, Taib witnessed the handing over of a mock cheque of RM50,000 from Naim Group to Lkamm.

Taib’s wife Toh Puan Sri Raghad Kurdi Taib, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg, Works Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Nancy Shukri, Minister of Welfare, Women and Family Development Datuk Fatimah Abdullah, Minister of Public Health Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, Assistant Minister for Solidarity Rosey Yunus, Assistant Minister for Land and Air Transportation and Safety Datuk Lee Kim Shin, Sibuti MP Ahmad Lai Bujang, Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting and Lambir assemblyman Ripin Lamat were also present at the gathering.
