LIMBANG: A new immigration post should be built at the Kampung Pendam-Lumapas border to relieve congestion at Tedungan CIQ (Custom, Immigration and Quarantine), especially during school holidays and festive seasons.

Kampung Pendam is in Limbang while Lumapas is in Brunei.

Assistant Minister of Welfare and Community Wellbeing Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, who is also Bukit Kota assemblyman, said this would tie in nicely with the opening of a new route through the proposed Sungai Limbang bridge that would link Limbang town to Brunei.

He said work on the second Limbang bridge was expected to take off this year.

The proposed Limbang Bridge project comprised of two bridges – one across Sungai Limbang and another across Sungai Bunut – and 3.5 kilometres of connecting roads.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem performed the earth-breaking ceremony last Oct 20.

Speaking at Kampung Pahlawan’s ‘Ramah Tamah’ gathering on Tuesday, Dr Abdul Rahman said the big congestion during Hari Raya Aidilfitri this year highlighted the need to divert traffic from Tedungan CIQ, as many people headed out to Limbang, Lawas and Sabah for holiday and festive visits.

On another matter, he urged the people to take an active part in the development of the country, instead of being mere spectators.

On Kampung Pahlawan, which is the largest village in Limbang District, Dr Abdul Rahman said the community hall would be completed next year.

A total of RM 1.5 million has been allocated under the Program Mesra Rakyat (PMR) of Limbang parliamentary seat and the state Rural Transformation Programme project to build the hall.

At the gathering, he presented Hari Raya gifts from the village security and development committee (JKKK) to 41 senior citizens from the village.

Also present were PBB Bukit Sari Youth chief Sufian Mohat, Penghulu Abu Tinggal, and village chief Bungsu Tambah.
