LONDON: Queen Elizabeth II on Wednesday formally accepted David Cameron’s resignation as Britain’s prime minister, an official said, before Theresa May visited Buckingham Palace be to confirmed as his successor.

“The Right Honourable David Cameron MP had an audience of the queen this evening and tendered his resignation as prime minister and first lord of the Treasury, which Her Majesty was graciously pleased to accept,” the monarch’s communications secretary said in a statement. -AFP
