SIBU: Two taxi drivers were each fined RM500 for fighting and causing an affray at Sibu Airport at about 1.30pm last Thursday.

Magistrate Sofia S Sawayan meted out the sentence on Lee Hock York, 49, and Huong How Liang, 62, yesterday.

The court was told that on June 26, Lee was waiting for passengers at Sibu Airport.

At about 1.30pm, he jumped queue which enraged Huong who was in the queue.

Huong reprimanded Lee for being rude and not following procedures, and reported him to the Sibu Taxi Association.

On July 14, Lee approached and asked Huong why he reported him. Huong replied that it was his duty to do so.

Huong gave Lee a push which led to a fight.

Policemen at the airport stopped the fight and arrested Lee and Huong.

They were charged under Section 160 of the Penal Code which carries a fine up to RM1,000 or imprisonment of not more than six months, or both upon conviction.
