MIRI: The Miri Division Lawn Tennis Association (MDLTA) is seriously promoting tennis through its coaching programme for juniors and beginners which it kicked off earlier this year.

It has held several programmes in the past and more recently a singles and doubles championship here in March.

It also took part in the Sarawak Inter-Division competition in Kuching in May.

MDLTA’s next event is a tennis get-together-cum-dialogue and ‘Ramah-Tamah Aidilfitri’ at the tennis complex at Petronas Games Village (near police HQ) here on July 24 (4pm-6pm).

“We are expecting veterans of the 1970s and 1980s and parents of the juniors to come as well,” said MDLTA president Han Hipeni yesterday, adding that Sarawak LTA (SLTA) president Datuk Patrick Liew and two prominent figures are also expected to attend.

Meanwhile, SLTA and Sarawak State Sports School (SSSS) will hold a Sarawak LTA-Women Singles Junior Open Leg 2 competition.

Han said MDLTA will send eight juniors to the Kuching tourney (July 15-17). — by Mary Francis
