MIRI: People at the grassroots level are urged to give their full support to the state government in its continuous efforts to make the state a major global tourism draw.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg said they can do their part by exploring the available business opportunities created through the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.

Abang Johari, who is also Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, gave this advice when speaking at a Hari Raya gathering in Sepupok Community Hall in Niah on Saturday.

“We are now making efforts to lure more tourists from China to visit Sarawak. The government is also making effort to provide more and upgrade the existing infrastructure in the state to further boost our tourism industry.”

He said Sibuti has a huge tourism potential which is not fully explored yet.

On this, he assured the people of Sibuti of the commitment of the state government to continue to improve the tourism infrastructure in the area, such the Bungai beach, Bakam Point and upgrading the facilities at Niah National Park at a cost of RM3 million to RM5 million.

He believes that when the infrastructure and facilities are in place, Sibuti will be a major tourist attraction which at the end of the day will benefit the locals in terms of income.

Thus, he advised the people to be creative and come up with attractive products and services which they should take up as a business venture.

He revealed that he had proposed to revive the Sarawak Art Council and rebrand it with a new image to reflect the beautiful culture of the various races in the state.
