RANAU: United Pasok Momogum Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (Upko) senior leader Datuk Dr Ewon Ebin has shot down rumours and allegations posted on social media about him quitting Barisan Nasional (BN) to join the Opposition.

He said the rumours and allegations were not only a pact of lies but also defamatory, deliberately created by cyber trooper thugs with the purpose of damaging his reputation.

“As the chairman of BN Ranau, I remain faithful to the ruling coalition and fully support the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman.

“Najib who is BN chairman and Musa who is Sabah BN chairman, know my political stand,” said Ewon during a meet-the-people gathering at Kampung Kaingaran and Kampung Molinsou near here.

The Ranau member of parliament said his ‘enemies’ had deliberately posted baseless allegations and slander on social media about him wanting to leave BN by showing photos of him together with Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS) president Datuk Wilfred Bumburing that were taken at a house during the Hari Raya celebration recently.

Ewon contended that it was common knowledge that traditionally leaders from the ruling BN and Opposition were invited to attend open houses during the festive celebrations such as Hari Raya, Harvest Festival, Christmas and Chinese New Year regardless of their political affiliations.

“Is there anything wrong for leaders and politicians to exchange festive greetings or posing with one another regardless of political affiliations?” he asked.

Interaction is a symbol of unity among the people, including politicians from both the political divide, which are common scenes in Sabah, particularly during the festive celebrations, he said.
