Media Centre ready to serve journalists covering Sukma

KUCHING: The Sukma Media Centre located at the Aquatics Centre in Jalan Stadium was officially opened here today to complement the needs of journalists covering the 18th Sukma.

Sarawak Information Department’s Media and Corporate Communications assistant director Charles Igat Assom said the center began operations at 7.30am today and will be closed after the closing ceremony.

He said up till today, the secretariat had issued more than 1,000 accreditation cards to media officials who will be covering the games.

Besides Kuching, there would be two more media centres, namely in Miri and Sibu, which also opened simultaneously today.

“Media personnel can now use the facilities provided at the centre which include internet, wi-fi services and desktop computers,” he said when briefing about 50 media representatives at the media centre, here today.

Miri will host three events, karate, sepak takraw and sailing, while Sibu host volleyball and badminton.

Igat said the centre will be the focal point of journalists covering the Sukma because press conferences will be held every day at 7.30pm to provide the latest updates of the 18th Sukma.

Meanwhile, WSL Sdn Bhd project manager Johanis Johari who is responsible for developing the software and the event management system for the 18th Sukma also attended the briefing today.

According to Johanis the public can now obtain all updates related to events by visiting the website at sukmasarawak2016.my starting today.

Participants involved in the opening ceremony of the Sukma were busy training since early morning at the Sarawak Stadium when a Bernama team made a routine visit today.

Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri, Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud will officially open the Sukma on Saturday while Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will officially close the Sukma on July 31. – Bernama
