KAPIT: The issues affecting Hulu Rajang constituents and their needs are being compiled so that they can be highlighted in Parliament.

Hulu Rajang MP Wilson Ugak Kumbong said he was collecting the information by visiting the over 400 longhouses in his constituency.

“Going to the ground is very important – it’s my strategy to receive feedback from the grassroots and also at leader with the people events for me to disseminate the government’s policies and development programmes,” he said during a Special Affairs Department (Jasa) event at Rumah Untam, Baleh recently.

He said the visit was also part of his early preparation for the next parliamentary election due in 2018.

“The people’s expectations are high and we have to deliver to live up to their expectations,” he said.

“My constituency is as big as Pahang. If I don’t do my ground work now to visit the longhouses, it’s very hard for me to visit them during election time.”

Ugak also advised the people to work together with elected representatives.

“We need to work together. That’s our framework to bring development to the constituency. All the government departments and agencies, BN (Barisan Nasional) component parties, community leaders and the local community must come together and work as one team to plan the development in Baleh,” he added.
