Kidnapping cases not affecting fishing activities in Sandakan — SFA

SANDAKAN: Coastal and deep sea fishing activities in the district here have not been affected by kidnapping incidents off the east coast of Sabah.

Sandakan Fishing Association (SFA) chairman Phua Peh Chee said fishing boats were going out to sea as usual in accordance with the curfew hours imposed by the police.

He said for deep sea fishing, the fishermen were able to obtain permission from the police should they decide to go out to sea during curfew hours.

“The fishermen are always on alert and will notify security forces of their movement to facilitate monitoring of their safety,” he told Bernama here yesterday.

Curfew order has been imposed in the waters of seven districts in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZone) from 7pm to 5am until July 22.

In the latest incident three Indonesian crew were abducted from their tugboat by kidnappers from southern Philippines in the waters near Tungku at Felda Sahabat Lahad Datu on July 10. – Bernama
