KAPIT: All necessary infrastructures must be in place before this town is connected to the rest of the state by road end of 2018.

Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Masing said in these three years all facilities must be ready to ensure smoother traffic flow in and around the town area because it’s rather small.

“We can’t allow heavy vehicles, for example, moving into the town, otherwise it will be too congested.

“As such, we have identified a piece of state land about two and half acres at Bletih in Kapit-Song road to build a bus terminal because with a road there will be a regular bus service between Kapit and Song.

“Buses and heavy vehicles are not allowed to go to the town because it is too small. Passengers wanting to continue their journey to the town centre would have to use taxis. We want Kapit to be safe for pedestrians and jam-free.

“That’s why we have to think down the line three years from now,” he told the press during a visit to the site of the proposed bus terminal in Bletih near here yesterday.

Masing, who is also Minister of Infrastructure Development and Transportation, also wanted the Kapit District Council to come up with a plan to beautify the town, especially at the iconic Lily Pond and the Town Square, to meet the concept of modern living.

“Covered foot paths must also be build in the town area to allow the people to move around in all weather conditions.

“It is possible to plan ahead because with me and others as the people’s representatives, together with the Resident Office, district office, Land and Survey Department, Public Works Department, all heads of government departments and community leaders, we can do things.”

Earlier, he was briefed by assistant officer of the Land and Survey Department Watson Awan and his assistant Daniel Deboh Nyala and the divisional engineer Gerald George on the proposed bus terminal.

Resident Joseph Belayong, Kapit District Officer Elvis Didit, police chief DSP Freddy Bian and several others were also present during the site visit.
