KUCHING: The Sarawak cycling team is not giving up without a fight despite not winning any medal after the second day of road races at the Matang FAC highway yesterday.

According to state coach Dzulkaflee Hassan, the team is targeting three gold medals from the road events.

He did not specify which category although he did say that they were not contested on the first and second day so far.

The men’s and women’s 500m time trials were completed yesterday.

State cyclists Ismail Ahmad and Zull Muharrmi Abdul Khalid finished 17th and 18th in the men’s event while Cassandra Lukas and Naziatul Azzua Ilias finished seventh and ninth place in the women’s event.

Johor’s Muhammad Shah Firdaus Shahrom picked up his second gold medal yesterday after having won the men’s 200m sprint on Wednesday.

Selangor’s Muhammad Fadhil Zonis finished second while Terengganu’s Asyraf Naim Ying took the bronze.

In the women’s event, Farina Shawati Mohd Adnan picked up another cycling gold medal for Selangor while Perlis’ Nur Rozi Yanti Matrodzi and Terengganu’s Siti Nur Alia Mansor collected the silver and bronze respectively.

The road races continue today at the Matang FAC Highway with the Individual Time Trial, starting 9am. — by Matthew Umpang
