Over 800 staying at Miri Sukma Games village

MIRI: National Youth Skills Institute (IKBN) here is the official games village which provides accommodation for athletes and officials taking part in karate, sepak takraw and sailing held in the city.

Assistant Minister of Solidarity Rosey Yunus has revealed that a total of 634 athletes and 251 officials are staying there.

In line with the Sukma slogan ‘Unity in Diversity’, Rosey urged the athletes to translate that into action.

She also spoke about living in a unique and multi-cultural country with the people still able to preserve and prioritise unity.

“We should uphold the sporting spirit as the main objective for Sukma is to be a platform to produce a spirit of solidarity and goodwill between the athletes and the local community,” she added to underline the importance of sportsmanship.

The Brunei Darussalam contingent was singled out while she expressed the hope that the participation of the invited team would further enhance the strong neighbourly ties.

Rosey, who is also Bekenu assemblywoman, called on the visiting athletes and officials to explore the places of interest in Miri Division.

Also present at the function were Lambir assemblyman and deputy chef de mission for the Sarawak contingent, Member of Parliament for Sibuti Ahmad Lai Bujang, Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting, Miri Resident Antonio Kahti Galis, Miri Police Chief ACP Junaidi Bujang and IKBN Miri acting director Zainal Abidin Nordin. — by Norni Mahadi
