MARUDI: SK Dato Sharif Hamid has bid farewell to teacher Siti Shahmen, who served the school for 23 years in total.

Siti, who will officially retire as a civil servant tomorrow at the age of 58, has been a teacher for over 36 years.

During her farewell at the school’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration yesterday, Siti thanked all the staff and pupils as well as their parents for their support and apologised for any shortcomings during her time at the school.

“I have taught at four schools – the first posting was at SK Benawa for two years, then to SK Dato Sharif Hamid (1982 to 1998) for 17 years, then was transferred to SK Good Shepherd and then to SK Rumah Gudang as senior assistant. After SK Rumah Gudang, I returned to SK Dato Sharif Hamid till my retirement today,” she said.

She noted that many of her pupils have successful careers today as doctors, lawyers, teachers, engineers and other professionals.

“I’ve decided to take my pension at this age to give way to the younger generation to become teachers,” she added.
