KOTA SAMARAHAN: Muhammad Aizat Ahmad Nazim of Perlis lifted twice his weight to win gold in the Youth Men’s 50kg Clean and Jerk event held at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) here this morning (July 22).

Weighing 49.78kg, Muhammad Aizat lifted 117kg in his first attempt to pile the pressure on his competitors.

Silver medalist Mohamad Harith Luftie Adnan of Penang opted for 116kg in his first attempt but was unable to increase his score after failing to lift 120kg in the next two rounds.

Syazwan Nizam Khadry of Pahang took bronze with a lift of 105kg.

Muhammad Aizat had a go at 125kg to improve his record in the second and third attempt, though the feat was unsuccessful. Being the last competitor to take the stage for his final two rounds, the Perlis lad was visibly content, knowingly that first place was already secured.

In the Snatch event earlier, Mohamad Harith lifted 97kg to win the gold medal for Penang. Muhammad Zahrul Nizam Zamzuri of Pahang and Muhammad Aizat also lifted 97kg but had to settle for silver and bronze respectively due to heavier body weights. Mohamad Harith weighs 49.25kg while Muhammad Zahrul registered 49.5kg.

All three competitors lifted 93kg in their first attempt followed by 97kg in the second round. The trio, trying to match each other pound for pound, each had a go but failed at 101kg for their third attempt.

Sarawak’s sole representative, Mario Allesandro Bong, took eighth place in the Snatch category after lifting 65kg. In the Clean and Jerk, he managed 85kg to finish ninth.

Overall, Penang took home one gold and one silver in the morning’s event held at UiTM’s Dewan Jubli while Perlis scored one gold and one bronze. Pahang secured one silver and one bronze.
