KUCHING: Sarawak swimmer Angela Chieng Chui Fei made the state swimming team proud by winning the first medal -a silver- in their swimming campaign through the 400m individual medley final at Sarawak Aquatic Centre on July 23.

Chieng, who finished second place in 5:12.50 was defeated by Nadia Adrianna Redza from Selangor who ended the race in 5:09.03. Third place went to Ong Yong Qi from Johor, while Ong Ming Fen from Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur (WPKL) placed fourth.

Selangor collected the most medals in the swimming events on July 23 with a total of 11 medals (four golds, four silvers and three bronzes), while Johor and WPKL were the teams with second and third most medals by winning four medals (three golds and one bronze) and five medals, respectively.

Other events held on July 23 included womens 200m freestyle, men’s 200m freestyle, women’s 100m breaststroke, men’s 100m breaststroke, women’s 50m backstroke, men’s 50m backstroke, and men’s 400m individual medley.

The swimming events will continue on July 24 from 8.30am with womens 200m backstroke, men’s 200m backstroke, women’s 100m freestyle, men’s 100m freestyle, women’s 50m butterfly stroke, men’s 50m butterfly stroke, women’s 200m individual medley and men’s 200m individual medley. All events will take place at Sarawak Aquatic Centre.
